About us

Janet  Birmingham.

My love of Ballroom, Latin and Sequence dancing began with lessons at Dawson's Dance Centre in Widnes. I quickly got the bug!

Soon after I started beginners I knew I wanted to start taking medals and it was great having a new skill to master. It was the best thing I had ever learnt, I had always loved to disco dance, but this was so much better, learning a new step every time I went for a class.

I started taking medals, and after a while wanted a new challenge so learnt how to master the  man's/leader's steps. Then I was asked by my teacher to help at classes, where I learnt even more, I loved a challenge and soon after I began training as a Student Dance Teacher,

I helped with the children's classes, and danced a different routine with each of them on their Medal Test Days, I absolutely loved it.

I also danced at the Regency Dance School in St. Helen's, where my dance teacher was head of the IDTA, International Dance Teacher's Association. I gained a vast amount of experience, and took on board their way of teaching, it was all great fun!

In 2004 I started up my own Dance school, the Janet Birmingham School of Dance and haven't looked back since.  I am proud to be an accredited Teacher of the Allied Dance Teacher's Association.

With my husband Ken we have been teaching together ever since, as well as hosting monthly dance socials at Alford Hall, Warrington and twice yearly, our wonderful Dance Weekend Breaks at a variety of hotels.  We'll be celebrating with our dance friends in 2024 to mark the school's 20th anniversary.

Dancing is a great way of meeting lots of lovely people, it keeps you fit and healthy and there is always something new to learn.

We hope we can carry on teaching dancing for many more years to come.

Keep Dancing !!
